You own everything you scan, and Foli never sees it. Every 100 qualifying pages, we pay to plant a tree through Ecologi. Leaves are a thank-you, not money: they have no cash value, monthly limits apply, and gaming the counter can cost you your leaves. Subscriptions are billed and refunded by Apple.
Agreement to these terms
These Terms of Service ("Terms") are a binding agreement between you and Foli ("we", "us", "our") governing your use of the Foli iOS app and the foliapp.co website (together, the "Service"). By downloading, opening or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, don't use the Service.
Who can use Foli
You must be at least 13 years old to use Foli. If you are under 18, or under the age of majority where you live, you may use Foli only with the permission of a parent or guardian, who agrees to these Terms for you. Purchases must be made by someone who can form a binding contract.
What Foli is
Foli is a document scanner. It also runs a tree-planting programme: as you scan, you earn leaves, and when your leaves reach a full tree, we pay to have a tree planted through Ecologi.
Leaves and trees
How leaves work
- One new, non-blank page scanned with the Foli camera earns one leaf. 100 leaves complete one tree.
- Repeated pages, blank or nearly blank pages, and photos of screens don't earn leaves.
- You must be signed in with Apple to earn leaves. Leaves earned while signed out are held on your device for 30 days and expire if you don't sign in within that time.
- Monthly limits apply: currently 30 leaves a month on the Free plan and 250 on Pro. Pages beyond the limit don't earn leaves.
- Invite rewards are 10 leaves for you and 10 for your friend, for up to 10 friends.
Leaves have no cash value
Leaves and trees are a feature of the Service, not currency, property or a financial product. They can't be bought, sold, transferred, exchanged for money, or carried to another account. Deleting your account ends your leaf balance.
How trees are planted
We order completed trees from Ecologi, which funds planting through independent restoration projects. Ecologi and its partners choose the project, location, species and planting season. We don't guarantee a particular species, site or planting date, or that any individual tree will survive. Your certificate shows the project we ordered your tree through.
Trees earned on the Free plan are funded from a monthly budget. If that budget is used up, the remaining trees are ordered in the following month.
Changes to the programme
We may change leaf rules, monthly limits, budgets, invite rewards or the planting partner. If we do, leaves you've already earned keep counting toward your current tree. If we ever end the programme, we will order a tree for every tree completed before the end date.
Fair use
Don't try to earn leaves by scanning the same material over and over, generating pages artificially, automating the app, modifying it, or using more than one account to get around limits. If we reasonably believe leaves were earned this way, we may remove them, pause leaf earning on the account, or suspend it.
Your content
You own it
You own everything you create in Foli: scans, PDFs, signatures and any text read from them. Because your content is stored on your device (and, if you enable it, synced only to your own iCloud account), we never receive it and claim no rights to it.
You're responsible for it
You're responsible for the content you scan and for having the right to scan, keep and share it. Don't use Foli to copy material you don't have the right to copy, or to forge signatures or documents.
Sharing and exports
Exporting or sharing a document happens only when you choose to. Once you share content outside the app, we have no control over what happens to it.
Accounts, storage and data loss
You can scan without an account. Earning leaves requires Sign in with Apple. Your documents live on your device and, if you use Pro iCloud sync, in your own iCloud account under Apple's terms. We don't store your documents and can't recover them for you. You are responsible for keeping your device secure and backed up. We are not responsible for content lost because of a lost, stolen, reset or damaged device, a disabled iCloud account, an uninstalled app, or a failure of Apple's services.
Third-party services
Foli depends on services we don't control, including Apple (iOS, Sign in with Apple, App Attest, iCloud and the App Store) and Ecologi. We are not responsible for their outages, changes or failures, or for their own terms and policies, which apply to your use of them alongside these Terms.
Purchases and subscriptions
Foli Pro is an auto-renewing subscription, currently $7.99 a month or $59.99 a year in the US, with a 3-day free trial for eligible new subscribers. It is billed and managed by Apple through your App Store account, under Apple's terms, including its subscription, auto-renewal and refund policies. Your subscription renews automatically unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period in your Apple ID settings. If you cancel during the free trial, you won't be charged. We do not process payments or receive your payment details, and refund requests are handled by Apple.
We may change prices. Apple will tell you before a price change affects your subscription, and you can cancel before it does.
Acceptable use
In addition to the rules above, you agree not to: reverse-engineer, decompile or try to extract the source code of the app except as permitted by law; interfere with or disrupt the Service, its servers or App Attest checks; resell or sublicense the Service; or use it for any unlawful purpose.
Intellectual property
The Foli app, the foliapp.co website, the Foli character, and their design, text, graphics, logos and software are owned by Foli or our licensors and are protected by intellectual property laws. We grant you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the Service for your own purposes. All rights not expressly granted are reserved. Ecologi's name and marks belong to Ecologi.
Disclaimer of warranties
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED OR STATUTORY, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE OR SECURE, THAT TEXT RECOGNITION WILL BE ACCURATE, OR THAT ANY PARTICULAR TREE WILL BE PLANTED IN A PARTICULAR PLACE OR AT A PARTICULAR TIME.
Limitation of liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, FOLI WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF DATA, ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE, EVEN IF WE HAVE BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING OUT OF THESE TERMS OR THE SERVICE WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM, OR (B) $100. SOME JURISDICTIONS DON'T ALLOW THESE LIMITATIONS, SO SOME OF THEM MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU.
Indemnification
You agree to defend, indemnify and hold Foli harmless from any claim, damage or expense (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising from your content, your use of the Service, or your violation of these Terms or any law.
Termination
You may stop using Foli at any time by deleting your account and the app. We may suspend or end your access to account features, including leaf earning, if we believe you've violated these Terms. Because your documents live on your device, this doesn't affect content already stored locally or in your own iCloud.
Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms as Foli changes. If we make a material change, we'll update the effective date above and, where practical, note it prominently on this page or in the app. Continuing to use the Service after a change means you accept the updated Terms.
Apple
These Terms are between you and Foli, not Apple. Apple is not responsible for the Service or its content, has no obligation to provide maintenance or support, and is not responsible for any claims relating to it. If the app fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price, if any; Apple has no other warranty obligation. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them against you.
Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles. Any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service will be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in California, and you and Foli each consent to personal jurisdiction and venue there.
General
If any part of these Terms is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect. Our failure to enforce a provision isn't a waiver of it. These Terms, together with our Privacy policy, are the entire agreement between you and Foli regarding the Service.
